Claude Certifications Registration: Everything You Need to Know

In Part 1 of this series, we looked at the four Claude certifications and how to choose the one that fits your role.

Now comes the practical part: Once you know which certification you want, how do you actually register and take the exam?

It’s not quite as simple as visiting a website, paying the exam fee, and picking a date. There’s an access requirement that many guides leave out, followed by a few steps involving the Anthropic Partner Academy, Skilljar, and Pearson VUE.

Here’s how the whole process works, including what you can expect on exam day.

First, make sure you’re eligible

This is probably the most important thing to know before you start.

Claude certification isn’t currently open to everyone. You need a work email connected to an organization in the Claude Partner Network to register.

Personal email addresses such as Gmail, Outlook, or iCloud won't work. Having a regular Anthropic or Claude.ai account also doesn't automatically give you access.

So, where does that leave you?

  • If your company is already a Claude Partner

This is the easiest route.

You can register using your work email and start the process. This is how our team at MND got access. Our certification push was connected to our existing relationship with the Claude Partner Network.

  • If your company isn’t a partner yet

Your company may be able to apply to join the Claude Partner Network.

Anthropic allows companies that build, sell, or deliver Claude-based solutions commercially to apply. However, approval takes time, so this isn’t something to leave until the week before you want to take the exam.

  • If you’re an individual

This is where things get a little more complicated.

Anthropic hasn’t announced when general registration using personal email addresses will become available.

Some third-party organizations offer paid ways to access a partner email address for certification purposes. These options do exist, but we’d treat them as a last resort. Read the terms carefully before entering into any agreement with another company.

If you’re doing this through your employer, the simplest thing to do is check with the person who manages your company’s Anthropic partnership before trying to register yourself.

How to register for the exam

Once you know you have access, the actual process is fairly straightforward.

1. Create your Partner Academy account

Claude certification registration runs through the Anthropic Partner Academy and Skilljar.

This is separate from your normal Anthropic or Claude.ai account, so don’t be surprised if you need to create another login.

2. Complete the preparation courses

Each certification has its own recommended training courses.

These courses are free, whether you eventually pass or fail the exam. We’ll go into the courses and preparation process in much more detail in Part 3.

3. Register and pay for your exam

Choose the certification you want and pay the exam fee.

At the time of writing, the prices are (in USD):

  • Associate – $99

  • Developer – $125

  • Architect Foundations – $125

  • Architect Professional – $175

If your organization qualifies for a partner discount, it should be applied during checkout.

4. Get your Pearson VUE details

After registering, you’ll receive your Pearson VUE login details.

If this is your first Pearson exam, you should receive an email with your username and password.

5. Schedule your exam

Log in to Pearson VUE and choose your exam date.

Depending on your location, you can either take the exam online from your own computer or visit an in-person test center.

You can also reschedule or cancel your appointment up to 48 hours before the exam without a penalty.

One thing to keep in mind: the account setup and verification process can take some time, especially if your company email domain isn’t immediately recognized. It could take anywhere from the same day to seven to ten business days.

So, don’t leave registration until the last minute.

What happens on exam day?

All four Claude certifications are proctored and, for online test-takers, require identity verification through Pearson's OnVUE system.

If you’re taking the exam online, here’s what to expect.

  1. First, you’ll verify your identity: You’ll need to show a government-issued ID, and only certain types of ID are accepted. Check Pearson’s requirements beforehand.

  2. Then, you’ll show your workspace: You’ll need to prove that your desk and surrounding area are clear of anything you could use during the exam.

  3. Finally, you’ll need a quiet space: All four exams are two hours long, so make sure you have somewhere you won’t be interrupted.

During the exam, you can flag questions and come back to them later.

Based on feedback from candidates who have taken the exams, time generally isn't the biggest problem. Some people finish with plenty of time left to review their answers.

So instead of rushing, use the extra time to go back through questions you weren’t sure about.

What if you don’t pass?

You’re allowed up to four attempts per exam within a rolling 12-month period.

There are waiting periods between attempts:

  • After your first attempt: 14 days

  • After your second attempt: 30 days

  • After your third attempt: 90 days

There’s also no discounted retake. Every attempt requires you to pay the full exam fee again.

Once you pass, your certification is valid for 12 months.

The good news is that if you renew before it expires, the renewal is a free, non-proctored refresher assessment. You don’t have to take the full exam again.

If you let the certification expire, however, you’ll need to pay the full fee and take the complete proctored exam again.

A few questions you might have

  1. Can I use my personal email?
No. You need a work email connected to an organization in the Claude Partner Network.

  2. Does my Claude.ai account give me access?
No. A regular Anthropic or Claude.ai account is separate from Partner Network membership.

  3. Can I take the exam in person?
Yes, where Pearson VUE test centers are available. You can also take it online.

  4. Can I reschedule?
Yes. You can reschedule or cancel up to 48 hours before your appointment without a penalty.

  5. How many times can I retake it?
Up to four attempts in a rolling 12-month period, with waiting periods between attempts. Each retake costs the full exam fee.

One thing to remember

For most people, the biggest surprise isn’t the exam. It’s discovering that you need access to the Claude Partner Network before you can even register.

Once you get past that step, the rest is fairly familiar: create your account, complete the training, pay for the exam, schedule it through Pearson VUE, and show up prepared.

For teams, there’s another useful point here. Claude certification isn’t something someone can simply sign up for on a random afternoon with a personal email. There’s an organizational relationship behind the process.

At MyNextDeveloper, that was part of the reason certification made sense for us. We weren't just collecting certificates. We were building deeper Claude skills across a team that already works with the technology.

Next up: Part 3 - How to Prepare: Study Plan and Free Resources, where we’ll break down what to study, which free resources to use, and how our certified team members prepared for their exams.
